Handling the Symptoms of Menopause

If you are a woman approaching middle age you are probably concerned about menopause and its symptoms. Dr. Williams and the staff of Williams OB/Gyn & Associates in San Dimas, CA can help with these concerns.

What is Menopause?

Menopause can be best explained as the time in a woman’s life when her menstruation ceases. To a young girl, this might sound like the ideal scenario; yet there are several cons to the start of menopause. Below are some symptoms which signal the start of menopause:

  • Irregular or missed periods up to a year
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Night sweats
  • Hot flashes
  • Irritability or mood swings
  • Cognitive issues- having a hard time remembering things or focussing
  • Dryness or itching in the vulvar and/or vagina areas

If you are suffering from any of the above symptoms, the Williams OB/Gyn & Associates in San Dimas, CA can help. Our OB/GYN doctors are caring and offer comprehensive, quality care to our patients.

Handling the Symptoms of Menopause

Dr. Williams of Williams OB/Gyn & Associates will perform blood tests to verify the symptoms you are having are that of menopause. If you are under 45 years of age and experiencing symptoms, the doctor will need to check your hormone levels.

In addition, monitoring your diet and avoiding certain foods is a good way to handle symptoms of menopause. The doctor can give you a list of foods to avoid as well as tell you what foods to eat.

If you are experiencing hot flashes, your hormone levels are likely too low. Dr. Williams will prescribe Estrogen to increase these levels.
