Fertility Evaluation and Infertility Treatment

Have you been struggling to get pregnant? Most women have a strong desire to have a baby at some point in their adult lives, and although conceiving a child may seem easy, it's actually very difficult for many couples. If you are experiencing these issues, Williams Fertility EvaluationOb/Gyn & Associates' San Dimas office offers fertility evaluations and infertility treatments to their patients.

Infertility Overview

Infertility means not being able to become pregnant after 12 months of trying. If a woman can get pregnant but keeps having stillbirths or miscarriages, that's also called infertility. Though the main symptom of female infertility is not being able to get pregnant, a menstrual cycle that's too short, too long, absent, or irregular can also connotate that you're not ovulating.

Causes of Infertility

Female infertility can have numerous causes. The most common causes of female infertility are problems with ovulation. Other causes of female infertility include blocked fallopian tubes, uterine fibroids, and physical problems with the uterus. Infertility may also be caused by thyroid disease, diabetes, older age, smoking, and poor nutrition.

Fertility Evaluation

During a fertility evaluation, tests and examinations are done to find the cause of infertility. Men undergo a semen analysis that evaluates sperm movement and structure and sperm count. For women, doctors check to see whether ovulation is occurring through ovulation home test kits, blood tests that detect hormones, and ultrasound exams of the ovaries.

Infertility Treatment

Many treatments significantly improve the chances of becoming pregnant. They include fertility drugs, hormone treatments, and assisted reproductive technology, Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) and surgery. Many women may need just one or two therapies to restore fertility. Some women may need several different types of treatment before they're able to conceive.
